The fundamentals of leadership are always there; a clear vision, communication, work ethic etc. Yet it is also important to evolve and develop.
Collaboration and kindness may not have been considered key attributes for a leader even 20 years ago. Managing a team who are remote working was unusual. Both are now commonplace.
Things don’t stand still and neither must our leaders.
The workplace has changed greatly in recent times and leadership is about adapting to that. Future leaders must be constantly looking forwards and embracing change, while showing they are agile and willing to challenge the norm.

Nowhere has this been more prevalent for businesses than in their approach to the Covid-19 crisis. What lessons have we learned from it? Future leaders need to act quickly and decisively in moments of crisis. They need to be innovative and creative.
Yet leadership is about more than decision-making and coming up with ideas. Future leaders need emotional intelligence and the ability to engage with people at all levels. Diversity and inclusion is hugely important and leaders of the future will have this in the forefront of their minds when creating the work environment. They must be authentic and transparent.
Staff are also looking for more from their leaders. They want them to show morality, give them purpose and offer a clear path for growth. For employers it is about retaining their best talent through training and upskilling. They have to invest in their team and find new ways to keep them, whatever their age and level, motivated and confident in taking control of their own career.
